Close to our Ridgefield shop

La Center sits on the East Fork of the Lewis River in north Clark County, not far from our shop in Ridgefield, so a site visit here is a short trip. The town has a small older core, newer subdivisions on its edges, and a lot of rural properties on larger lots around it. The electrical work is different on each.

What the work looks like on different La Center properties

  • A house in a newer subdivision. The panel may already have the open slots a hot tub or EV charger needs. If it does, the job can be a new dedicated circuit and a short run to where the equipment goes.
  • An older house in town. Older panels are more likely to be full, hard to service, or short on capacity. Sometimes the right first step is a panel upgrade, and the new circuit follows.
  • Acreage, a shop, or a barn. Out on larger lots the power often has to travel a long way, usually underground in conduit, to a detached shop, barn, well pump, or RV hookup. Distance changes the materials and the labor, so we walk the route before we give you a number. A subpanel at the far end is common.
  • Anything outdoors. Winters are wet. Disconnects, outlets, and chargers outside need equipment and wiring methods rated for wet locations.

Power and permits in La Center

Electric service in La Center comes from Clark Public Utilities, the customer-owned utility that serves all of Clark County. When a job needs the power shut off at the meter or a change to the service, we coordinate with them.

The City of La Center doesn’t issue electrical permits. Electrical permits and inspections for a charger, a hot tub circuit, or a panel change go through Washington L&I. We purchase the permit for our work and schedule the inspection. If the electrical work is part of a bigger project like an addition or a new outbuilding, the City of La Center handles the building permit for that part, and the electrical sign-off comes before the final building inspection.

Hot tubs and EV chargers

These two are the most common reasons homeowners call for a new circuit. Both need a dedicated 240-volt circuit and a clear route from the panel, and the hot tub also needs a disconnect and GFCI protection. Our guides cover what a hot tub hookup involves and how to prepare for a home EV charger.

Our rebates guide covers the details and the other Clark Public Utilities rebates.

Other electrical work in La Center

We also handle recessed, pendant, under-cabinet, and outdoor lighting, new outlets and GFCI protection, whole-home surge protectors at the panel, and troubleshooting for breakers that trip or outlets that stop working. Adding a circuit for a heat pump? Your HVAC contractor installs the unit, and we handle the dedicated circuit and outdoor disconnect. Planning a remodel?
